You can file a complaint about misleading jewelry appraisals in New York City.
Individuals who sell or appraise jewelry in New York City must:
- Provide a written jewelry appraisal that states the standard of monetary value used
- Provide detailed sales slips for sales of more than $75
- Disclose that jewelry appraisals may vary as much as 25 percent
Individuals who sell or appraise jewelry may not misrepresent the nature of an article of jewelry.

To receive follow up on your request, you must provide your address. The Agency will mail you a complaint form, which you must complete and return. If you also provide an email address with your Service Request, you will receive the form by email instead. Be sure to check your spam folder in addition to your inbox.
