You can make a complaint about businesses that wash, dry, starch, or iron clothes, household linens, or other washable fabrics for the public or that operate a public self-service laundromat with automatic or coin-operated machines.
You can make a complaint about:
- Unlicensed activity
- Inaccurate scales
- Unstaffed laundromats that fail to post required signage with the business name and telephone number for complaints
- Licensed laundromats that lose or damage your property
- Businesses that charge men and women different prices for the same service
The Department of Consumer Affairs will not accept complaints about:
- Lost or damaged items that you washed using automatic or coin-operated machines
- Sanitation problems
Laundromats can set prices, such as charges for hot water usage, but must disclose them. You must beware and shop around for the best prices.
What Happens Next
To receive follow up on your request, you must provide your address. The Agency will mail you a complaint form, which you must complete and return. If you also provide an email address with your Service Request, you will receive the form by email instead. Be sure to check your spam folder in addition to your inbox.
The Agency will consider your complaint a tip if you do not provide your address.
