Animal Bite

You can report if you or someone you know has been bitten by an animal. New York City Health Code requires that all such animal bites, including bites from dogs and cats, be reported.

Veterinary Public Health Services receives these reports and coordinates follow up with the animal, the owner, and the person bitten to assess the risk of rabies.

All personal information submitted will be held in strict confidence.

The City does not accept complaints about animals that have been bitten by other animals.

You can report if you or a pet has been bitten or scratched by a bat or other wildlife that can transmit rabies to Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC).

If the bat or other wildlife that can transmit rabies that has bitten or scratched you, or a pet, is in your house or contained on your property, do not release it or dispose of the animal. After reporting it, the bat or other wildlife that can transmit rabies will be picked up for rabies testing.
